Dead Reckoning

Storyline context:
When everything is lost….what’s left? The truth can be difficult to accept and denial accelerates the downward spiral. My situation is deteriorating in the face of an undeniable truth…no possibility of a return. As paranoia, mental exhaustion and chemical dependencies begin to take over, it becomes easier to navigate the space between tangible and intangible.

The secret it seems
When I fall asleep
Is my sweet chemical dream changes everything

When you find the sequence
Open your eyes
Reaching the limit
Of what can be denied

When you find the sequence
Open your eyes
Reaching the limit
Of what can be denied

The light in your eyes
(I know what you’re thinking, but I know what I saw)
Has me hypnotized
(I know what you’re thinking, but I know what I saw)
A thousand yard stare
(I know what you’re thinking, but I know what I saw)
My skin is magnetized
(I know what you’re thinking, but I know what I saw)
By static in the air
(I know what you’re thinking, but I know what I saw)

I’m electrified
If this is a dream
And I am asleep
Then I’ve gone too deep
I don’t recognize anything
I’ve gone too deep
Beyond dead reckoning
My eyes are wide open
They are wide open…

If I am awake
Then the temptation is more than I can take
Because I feel the need
Like fingernails that cut into my skin
And I can’t separate the illusion
From tissue, tooth and bone
If this is a dream
(I know what you’re thinking, but I know what I saw)
And I am asleep
(I know what you’re thinking, but I know what I saw)
Then I’ve gone too deep
To reconcile the reality confronting me
With my eyes wide open

They are wide open…
